“A few evenings, in pictures”
These frames were taken over several ordinary weeks, not on special occasions. They show the brick dining room with the lamps just lit, the plates as they leave the pass, the felt room under its low lamps and the guests who make the whole place worth opening. Some faces belong to regulars, some to first-timers who stayed late and some to staff caught between jobs. Every picture was taken with permission, and none has been touched up beyond a little extra brightness for the camera. If you spot a friend, tell them. The frames run roughly in the order of an evening, from the street door to the last table, so take your time and read them from the top.
